The Installation

The piece was made in Florence, during the summer semester of 2007, under the subject of bringing out our impression of the city.
Renaissance is a period in which artists realized the significance of spectators’ views over the exposed pieces, as well as implying it within their works, creating 3D illusions and movement of horizon which made paintings more dramatic. This awareness of a view was my starting position.
The presence and concentration of huge number of tourists in Florence today, as well as their gazes directed towards same pieces at the same time, creates plentitude of different reactions and as such create various diverse interactions and interpretations of the same pieces. My intention was to interpret those standing points in rendering some of the most common art works, Florence has to offer.
I pointed out several different gazes in order to give them independent position, which is required, compared to those works of art having their own place within the city’s artistic heritage and to bring out their mutual value in comprehending art, now days.
